After working as a wildlife biologist for several years after university, I decided to take a different route, becoming a fishing guide and then outfitter on the Bow River, founding Silvertip Outfitters in 1981
Silvertip Outfitters is an independent guiding and outfitting service that does not operate from any fly shop.
In the late 80's I became intrigued by the unfished and unknown portion of the Bow River downstream of the Carseland weir and flowing soon after through the Blackfoot (Siksika) Indian Reserve. Together with several of my guides we pioneered fishing and guiding this section of the Bow. After years of experience here, we settled on the use of outboard jet equipped drift boats to access this incredible fishery, returning upstream to our private mooring each evening.
In 2013 I acquired facilities on the Bow River close to the Carseland weir and to our mooring and launch site, and the "Lower Bow Lodge" guesthouse was launched. Angling guest may now take advantage of on river accommodations and meals.
Besides myself, the Silvertip guide team consists of several mature and highly experienced guides who have been working with me on the Bow for decades.
The Bow River valley through the Blackfoot Reserve is an unspoiled wilderness of native short grass prairie and cottonwood flats, interspersed with rock and clay cliffs. Wildlife is abundant and birding opportunities abound. My background as a biologist and naturalist allows me to afford an understanding of the ecology of the river and the valley.
